Dictionary definitions for

half-joking

adjective

1.  said, done, or acting in a seemingly

jokey manner, but with some serious intent.

"As with every half-joke, it is often the half that is humorous that is looked for most.

This can deflect the attention from the non-joking half.

The challenge is to make the half-humour heavy enough to tilt the work into serious business.

While some of my work may use dead-pan humour, I feel it is not to the detrement of power in the art work, nor is it the case that humour is apparent in all of my work. Where humour does surface, it is in the commonplace, involving a common truth."
